Happy new semester

So I'm back and getting ready for my next shot at teaching. This time it's an afternoon section of the writing course I taught last semester. Other than waiting for the web space (electronic course locker oO) to go through I'm pretty set. Have some thinking to do about the last project, but I feel ready to start on Thursday. Mean while I'll have to figure out a way to pay for my books. I think I'll need to buy some of those things.

So I'm at the tail end of the required student conferences for the sememster.  These conferences are the first time some of these students have been to my office hours - let alone my office.  I guess I didn't go to office hours when I was in my first year writing class so maybe this is justice.  

All I do know is that if it weren't for those years of writing center confrence afternoons where several appointments were lined up back to back I'm not sure I would be able to do this.  The good thing though, is that it seems to be going well.  Now if only I could say the same of forming a committee.

Good news...

Feeling much better and I'm all done with grading.  Now if only Monday would last long enough for me to catch up on reading.

As long as I don't run out of tissues I may just finish a good chunk of papers today.  Looks to be nice outside to, so maybe the sunshine will clear this cold out.

Again with the grading?

It's true - more grading. The first two projects were set pretty close to one another. Thankfully the pace for the third project is a little slower. Other than delaying the reading of papers I'm trying to get iTunes to download some new (free) music. Silly thing has been acting strange for the last couple days. Might just end up listening to more from Regina Spektor.

Grading...

So I'm done with my first batch of papers and I'm pretty happy with the way things have gone. May have a few students speaking with me in the next few days, but overall seems to be a solid group. There's always room for improving writing though (no surprise there from my posts :-).

It's Friday...

do I really need to say more?  I do have drafts to give feedback on, but still - it's the end of the week.

Holiday weekend...

Nothing like it to get stuff done or at least make an attempt and relax while you're at it.  With all the weather it may have been tough for some.  Glad to be someplace where I only lost power for a couple hours early last week.  On a professional note, teaching went very well this morning.  Will have to get back to that 'professional voice' thing.

Professional Voice?

So I get an email about student information on the program's web page and it occurs to me people other than friends might actually begin reading this page.  Other than Alex's blog ------>>>>>

Most of what I read of blogs is more or less like what you're reading here.  Pretty conversation with a small group of peope in mind.  So do I need a professional voice?  Could look at one of the several blogs I know of from others in my program.  It's odd how such a voice was pretty easy for me to develop in my short run podcast, but here not so much.  More later...

I guess it's supose to be like this over the weekend too.  I'll get more work done at the least.

Back...

So I'm back in NC and hope to get more into posting.  I'll have to see if I can get better at this whole posting thing.  So far the second year is starting well.  I'm teaching now so that's great.

Also, with new first year students the program is getting larger which is really nice.  Sure is good to have more people around with new and different interests.  And if the rain would stop I might even be able to have some fun.

You've been what?

I've been busy with school work yes it's true. Well that and I seem to lose interest in this whole blogging thing. I mean I write enough as it is right? Probably not, but hey. My semester is wrapping up so perhaps this summer will be better. What I really need to do is get into the habit of doing this.

2006?

Yeah, so I went M.I.A until the new year. Made it through my first semester of PhD school and the end of my MA stuff. An interesting time to say the least. Got to visit winter in Michigan over the break. It's cold in North Carolina, but not really winter if you ask me. Well, I think technically it is. Classes start tomorrow and I think I may just be ready to go.

All set with most of my work for tomorrow. Now I'm ready to go to bed. Ah yeah, other than school work not to much going on here. Waiting for pay day, but what's new. Night, night.

Finished at the library...

Just finished some reading from reserves at the library. Don't you just love when you have to go some place to borrow a book you didn't have a chance, or money for that matter, to buy. Suriously, I get better work done and the chairs here are pretty comfortable if you find the right ones. Some more stuff to read once I get home. I've already read one of the things in a previous class, even presented on it - how nice is that. Think I may be working with a classmate on the same thing Thursday, but I'm not sure. Have to check email about that.

Reading, check...

All set with my reading for tomorrow. I finished the rest of the book were using in one of my other classes this weekend, so I'm good for Wednesday too. Have a phone meeting in the morning on Wednesday also. So with work done I'm all set to go to a hockey game tonight with my roommate. Should be lots of fun.

One proposal down...

So I'm set as far as my proposal goes. Now the big question is if I should prepare a presentation for tomorrow. For class the website just says "Students may be asked to provide demos of implementation projects or to lead disussion on their mid-term papers." I think I'm fine leading an improv discussion, but it would be nice to get some warning about who is dong what. But hey, there isn't any reading so that is nice. Time for assistantship stuff.

Middle of the week...

So it took me a bit to post again. The good news is reading for class is set for all but my computer science class. This evening will be working on that and stuff for my job. More stuff from Apple today.
